Improving Kurdistan’s approach towards children with developmental disorders

Kurdistan Region needs to develop policies geared towards ensuring children with developmental disorders receive adequate care and attention. Children that are neuro-diverse are not only disadvantaged, but their parents lack adequate information on how to care for them. Consequently, children from low-income families tend to be the most disadvantaged because the cost of caring for them is high, and overall awareness low.

When you search for learning disabilities and governmental guidance in United Kingdom, the government’s public health directory has a succinct guideline on individuals with learning disabilities, and the appropriate care for them. In contrast to this, the Kurdistan Region has yet to develop a policy in regards to children with developmental disorders such as those on the autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

The lack of guidance on dealing children with developmental disorders has left parents trying to figure out how to best care for their children by themselves. This puts them at risk of receiving inaccurate information, and research shows that early intervention can help aid children’s progress fundamentally.
